TriYoga in my life
I have practised many different sports throughout my life from squash to snowboarding, and even though I still continue to mainly enjoy swimming and running, it is TriYoga that has been the one consistent thing in my life now for more than five years.
I first came accross TriYoga when I was participating on a 10-day fasting retreat at the Rejuvenation Center called Tree of Life in Arizona, in US. Our daily TriYoga classes were taught by Shanti Golds Cousens, a senior TriYoga teacher who studied several years with Kaliji. I had practised yoga here and there before but I had never really 'got' what yoga was supposed to be all about.
Well, that was until I participated in my first TriYoga class.
This is when something happened. Something unexpected.
During a Flowing posture I started to first feel something warm on my shoulders and on the back of my neck. I was a little surprised by this, but continued to observe what was happening. This warmth continued to move up from the neck to my head and then little by little to my whole body, feeling like my whole body was tingling.
After the class I recounted what had happened to my teacher Shanti and she just smiled and said 'It seems like the energies in your body begin to flow...' After this I wanted to learn more about TriYoga and no later than the same summer I enrolled to TriYoga teacher training and internship program in Santa Cruz at TriYoga Center and became certified TriYoga teacher.
Though at first I only wanted to learn more about TriYoga so that I was able to practise it by myself and did not really consider teaching, it's been now more than three years that I have been sharing TriYoga with others and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.
Nowadays, I practise the Flows almost every day and I continue to take private classes twice a week through Skype with a fellow TriYoga teacher. I do one natural alignment class a week which helps me to further my knowledge on alignments, cues & other specifics of TriYoga. The other class I do is the Flow class, which enables me to just be a student again and really enjoy the Flow.
I also participate in several teacher trainings and workshops throughout the year which is always a new learning experience and gives me an opportunity to connect with the TriYoga community and evolve, learn more and go deeper in my practice.
Like one of my teachers said, we are all students for life !
I don't really consider myself a teacher, I'd rather like to think that I share what I love. One of my favourite quotes is from Rumi
'Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do'. This is exactly how I feel about TriYoga...I continue to learn and evolve thanks to all the people that I'm able to share the Flow of TriYoga with.
It feels almost an understatement to say that TriYoga has transformed my life since it is the subtle force that guides my life. The practise brings calmness and clarity to my mind and a sense of amazing overall wellbeing and health. Even my body that I always though as rather stiff despite all the sports I practised has slowly become more flexible. I just feel so unbelievably grateful that I found it!
However I do have to remind myself that it's only the regular practise that brings the benefits, like Kaliji says 'without discipline there is no yoga' and we all know that'discipline creates freedom', right ! So, let's get to our mats!
